rods

my girl friend purchased two rods for my birthday can i salmon fish with these? She bought them at bi mart, and i dont see the one on the website.
one is a classic glass 8'6" 8-20 3/8-1 oz. can i troll herring with this rod or use it on a downrigger?
the other is a 9'0" xhc 15-30 3/4-2 oz. would this be a good rod to use on kwikfish?

Don't recognize the last rod's number, but the line ratings sure in the right ballpark. She's a keeper, she picks the good stuff.
