Fiberglass Surf Rod

Good Day

I am looking for a Lamiglas rod to pair up with birthday present - a Van Staal VS250B.

I was thinking about an 11' one piece fiberglass with a lure weight of 1 - 3.5.

Most of my lures are approx 1.5 to 2.5 oz

I want the rod to have a nice parabolic action.

I am not a big fan of graphite - I am an old school fiberglass fan.

Watcha got for me ?

Thanks

Bob

I haven't seen a quality

I haven't seen a quality factory surfrod in quite a while. If you are interested in building your own it is a fairly simple thing to do. If you want an old Montauk staple, get a Lamiglas SB1362M fiberglass surf blank. You may find it in honey, white, or black. You will need about seven feet of 1/16" cork tape (for a thirty inch grip), five Fuji Alconite guides ( size 50, 40,25 16,and 12), a butt cap and a tip top with a size 12mm ring to fit the tip of the blank. I build these all the time for guys who want a traditional pencil popping fiberglass rod. I also build them for some bait fishermen who don't put the rod in a sand spike when fishing bait. The blank is 11.5' long but it only weighs about 9ozs. You can build a 11.5' surfrod that weighs about one pound total weight. Usually I build this rod without a reel seat, the real can be taped on with a combination of electrician's tape and "tommy" tape (this is a silicone based tape that is sold in the plumbing department of most hardware stores as self fusing, leak fixing tape). If you add a reel seat, add another three to four ounces to the total weight. You will need a Fuji size 24 seat in whatever color you choose.
If you want a shorter rod there are two blanks in the mooch/bait series that will fir the bill. The MB1083M and the MB1143F. The MB1143F is a little faster action (stiffer) but both are very popular. Same parts selection as above except the reel seat is a size 20.
