I'm on almost the same page as Abbass. I've been upgrading all of my gear. I have two casting reels that I'm looking to match with new rods.
One is an oldie, a Shimano Triton Speedmaster VI, comparable to a 3/0 (Graphite/titanium, 3 ball-bearings, 25lb - 30lb line). that is reaching over twenty years old. The current rod is a 10' composite rated 12-40lb line. I used an e-glass a little heavier than that for some years. I want to find a rod that's lighter but will give me the casting distance I need. An average set up might be 3oz and bait.
The second reel is a newer Abu 6600, I have it spooled with 20lb braid. I've been trying it with different rods in my closet, 9'- 10, salmon poles and light surf casters but I'm not pleased with the results. Either the distance isn't what it should be or the stick feels too heavy, or two light, for the reel. This reel is popular with the surf guys but I just can't seem to get the right combination.
I'd like both rods to be in the 10-11' range.
From other surf forums Lamiglas seems to be the forerunner in rod choice. I'm in Hawaii and surprisingly there's only one Lamiglas dealer in the state (on Maui) and most of the other fishing stores don't have a broad inventory of real quality gear so I have to purchase on-line. Also, most of the shore casters I know are into much heavier casting gear. For instance I used to cast a lot with a 4/0, 50lb outfit with a 13ft custom ulua pole. My partner uses a 6/0 and some have even gone as big as a 9/0. But those really big fish are much scarcer now. I'm older and lighter is the way to go. Any one have some suggestions.

That is a very good choice. That model has plenty of power and will perform very well for you. Hope you like it have a great day.
