I have IM 86 purchase when they frist came out, I used it for drift fishing. I have gotten out of drift fishing for steelhead and more into salmon fishing and how I am getting the bug to drift fish again for steelhead. Is this rod still the great rod it was in the day or is there something better out there in the Lamiglas family of drift rods for steelhead.

It's still a dandy steelhead rod, there have been some improvements over the years. The premiers drift rod now is the EXC 92 M.

I am looking for the ultimate salmon rod for the Rogue River outlet at Gold Beach, Or. I have a jet boat that I anchor about 1-2 mile from the Gold Beach bridge. Working with 2-7oz weights depending on the water flow and frozen baits. I am looking at the LX86HC as my next rod. With out going to much over my budget, can you come up with a equal or better rod for the price, or is this the one??
For the price that is going to be your only option. The next price point up is going to be atleast double that, however the X11 series of rods have been awesome for us and people seem to have nothing but great things to say about them. Hope this helps.
