Have been looking for a new rod for a while now, and just cant decide. Been looking at few different rods, and the excel is top two. I was wondering for anyone that has used the 7' glass rod, that if it really had a rod power of 5, of if being glass it had a little softer of an action. I originally wanted it to throw top water. I am still wanting a top water rod, but was also looking to throw a small BBZ-1. Any advice was would be helped again. Wondering if the 704 would be a better all around rod. Worried that the 703 would have too soft of a tip.

Does anyone also know how much they weigh? All the review say they are light, just wondering if anyone had a spec on the actual weight?
What the hell is the point of wasting my time writing on this forum if I am not going to get any answers. This is the third post that I have put up, and just cant seem to get a straight answer. Cant find a Lamiglas rod in store, and cant get help here! Giving my business back to BPS and Cabelas. Rods might be built here in the US, but somehow they have forgotten about customer service!
This is the "advise forum" this is not the factory info site, custom rod builders and people who fish Lamiglas products post here. Occasionally Josh of someone looks at the site if they have time.
If you need a fast, direct question, email or call the factory direct. Lamiglas has fantastic customer service, you're just not in the right place to get it.
Looks like they use the same glass blank as the SR 705 R and XCF 705 R rods. I'd bet the weights are within 3/8 oz of each other no matter the build. Not a wimpy soft blank.
No one knows as much as all of us.
I'll be honest with ya, Ihavn't used any of the Excel rods, living in wisc the season ended before they were avail, however, having used the xc705 and only handling the xl705 c. I can say that i believe that for topwater the xl 704 would be a better choice for me, i need a rod which is a little more forgiving on a hookset, with a little softer tip i dont worry bout ripping and risking losing the fish. the xc 705 has been great for pier and thicker weeds deep or shallow jig, tube, worms, etc. I just ordered xl 705 and cant wait for the water to soften up. the 703 i think will be an awsome rod for crank bait, chuggers, lighter swim jigs, just my opinion. Also excited that there is a possibility that cabelas may be handling lamiglas soon (so i'm told). sorry to hear no one responded, hope this helps and sorry i cant help ya on the glass question................jake
I have been off the forum about a year and had to sign back up with a new log in name. I want to help answer your questions. I am not a Lamiglas employee or pro-staffer but have been a customer for 32 years. There are currently three glass rods offered with a 5 power, the former SR705R ( yellow ), the Certified Pro and the Excel 705 Glass. They are all 5 power "glass" actions, are parabolic with substantial back bone for moving larger fish. Look at the on line catalog. These rods are not completely crankbait specific but that's their strength. They all load well and have wonderful sensitivity for glass blanks. If you want a rod to double up for jerk bait use, poppers and spook type baits the XL703 cast is your model of choice. Be patient, the Excel series has done very well and we on the west coast are seeing the full product line now showing up. They are made here in Washington State. If you need a reference for an on line dealer, Tackle Wharehouse carries the entire line. I hope this of some help. Post Script: After 32 years of customer experience, I will stack Lamiglas' service against any company any day.

I have a question are the 705 glass rods made of all glass, and what is the difference between
the Certified pro Glass rod and the Excel Glass rod. Are they both made on the same blank?
