I built a plug rod on the corresponding blank that the ss 91mhs uses. The guy I built it for uses it extensively for stripers and blues from the jetty. The blank is stiff, light and powerful. Just don't lift the fish with it! Find a suitable/safe metod for lifting you fish to your feet.
Good fishing!!

If you decide to not go the

If you decide to not go the custom route, here are my comments:

I have used the "factory" 9' Super Surf 1-4 last season for some jetty / inlet fishing & it worked out just fine.

I haven't fished the XS series rod but have read / heard that it isn't quite as "fast" action as the SS.

In strong currents the SS seems to fill the bill.

As the above poster recommended, certainly don't attempt to lift a fish with your rod though.

Best of luck with your decision
