Long casting

I'm not new to surf fishing but I want to get serious with my next rod and reel purchase. I want a rod and reel that can do it all. I want to plan some tips for rock fish, drum (red, black, bull). I'm looking at a Van Staal 250 spinning, but need some advice on which Lamiglas rod to buy. I want most of all to cast 2-4oz lures (spoons, plugs, poppers,) and bait (live and frozen) very long distances. I was looking at the super surf model ss 115 mhs dh (11.5 detachable handle). Can anyone give me some insight? O yes, detachable handle sounds good on a surf rod, but what is the main purpose for it?

Ok, seeing that none of you Great surf fishermen has answered my first question can anyone please tell me if the SS 11 mhs dh is rated at 3-6 lure or 4-8 lure. This web site says 3-6 but the description of this rod when I go to buy is says 4-8. If anyone would like to take a stab at my first question (above) it would be greatly appreciated. I did learn that the detachable handle is just for storage. I thought it was for something else.

Can anyone tell me what's the best lamiglas rod for VS 250 reel, long distance casting and 2-4 oz lures? Also will the SS 11 MHS DH (11’ 2 4-8 17-40 Mod/Fast) rod still throw 2-3 oz lure the long distances I want. I really like the ideal that this rod cast like a 1 piece but I mostly will be throwing 2-3oz lures and 4oz sinkers for frozen and live bait. The money isn't the issue but I don't want to over kill when I can get a different Lamiglas rod that will do everything I want it to do.

I have fished both using bait

I have fished both using bait and lures. As for bait, many times the fish are up close in the holes or just feeding on the sand bar so there would not need to cast that far. The problem with bait fishing, also, at a distance is that the water movement can change and bring your bait at a direction that is undesirable, meaning you'll bait can end up 100 yrds down to your right or left of you on the shore. If you are walking the beach plugging, the Super Surf may be be to heavy....unless your one of those heavy weighlifter guys. So your better off using GBS or the Ron Arra for plugging. The Super Surf lure weight that you would use if you just starting out should be around 4-10 oz depending which coast your fishing at. I've seen some get away with 2-6 oz.
