Want a Lami surf blank. Plan on using a US Reel 240SX, unless discouraged by responses. Called US reel and was told it should handle a 10" surf rod. OK, I plan on throwing plugs and metal, 1- 3 oz., would like to reach bars offshore. Looking at 114's to 120's. So many options, ie: Tri Flex, Ron Arra, G1000, Super Surf, etc. Was told the G1000 is a good choice. Need advice. The 240SX is a wide spool, long cast spinning reel and will hold 277 yds. of 20# braid, or 188yds. of 30#. Good reel choice, or way off base. If so, what rod and reel for throwing plugs from Jersey beaches? TYVM New here so be patient :)

The G1000 blanks are a great all around blank capable of a little wider range of lure weights then the Ron Arra Series. With that said, the Ron Arra is our best distance casting blank. When loaded properly, the Ron Arra's will outcast everything else we have. Durability should be a concern also when looking at these blanks. Generally Surf Fishing can wear on equipment quite easily, with that in mind the Super Surf series is the most durable/heaviest duty blanks that we offer. The Ron Arra is probably the most vulnerable to breakage from abuse, and the g1000 series and tri-flex series fall somewhere in-between.
Does cost come into the decision for you? That would also play a big deal with the decision if you were looking to stay less expensive.

Cost is NOT a factor. But the REEL is. The US Reel I posted MUST be credible and it Must be a factor when choosing guides and placement of them. The Arra rods are interesting but, let's say a 10 footer, using 1oz. to 2 1/2 or 3 oz. ??? And I don't PLAN on bulling in a 50lber, never did, prob never will :) I need something to get me out to the bars if needed. Got plenty of tools to get where most of the fish usually are, but sometimes their out just beyond my reach. If there is a rod you suggest, is there a reel that would match it for distance?
I don't have tons of experience with the reel, but the US Reel you are talking about would be fine. Wit that reel I would recommend the GSB 120 1L, or GSB 120 2L(2 piece). I think for what you are doing that rod would perform very well.

The XRA Series are designed to achieve excellent distance with little effort and cast a more variety of lure weights. These rods are the ultimate, for lure presentation and lure control which is imperative to achieve a strike. The XRA rods have a firm powerful butt section, designed to transfer the (stored & release energy) power from the butt to the rod tip to achieve top performance in casting and also playing a big fish in a fast current.
I personally have all the XRA series, including some custom made, to my specs. I am very appreciative and lucky to have them. I fish hard and long, trying many different variety of lures to achieve success and honestly never had a rod fail and have many friends that are ardent anglers whom take pride in their rods, have the same positive results. All rods need proper care. These rods will last as long as you want to fish, in your life, if you follow the rod usage guide lines on page 8 in the 2009 Lamiglas catalog. Good Fishing

I like both sticks, but was concerned that the XRA would not be as battle ready, but you put those fears to rest. Am opting for the XRA, but Mr. Arra, would the 240 SX be a good choice for around 10' ?
Thank you much, Happy Thanksgiving to all and to all you love :)
Just researched the XRA's.. interested in the 120 3-2, 120 4, and 120 5-2. Noticed the butt and tip spec, and was curious as to the tapers on these 3 models. Any advice on which one would be best for hurling plugs to England? thanks again
Jersey Devil, I do not own the 240, but looked up the specs and appears to be a good low cost model to use. My choice between the three model rods you mentioned would be the 1204 one piece 1-3oz lure rating, or the one piece 1205 rated for 1-4oz lures. If your going to cast a little more in weight with an average, then go with the 1205 model. The 1204 has a little faster tip section than the 1205. If your looking for an all around rod then go with the 1205.

Done deal, thank you sir
