I have the 1306-t g-1000 series rod and am a shore fisherman always have been and have done very well, its just that these winter buggers are quite hard to hook up in the freezing weather lately...

Freezing temps and low water

Freezing temps and low water temps are the time I pull out the big real silver plated spinners and spoons.
They can get a steelhead to move when little else I have tried gets their attention.

what type in particular? do you use any scents?

Of the store bought, get just

Of the store bought, get just about anywhere spinners, Blue Fox stands out. Over the years I have had very good luck with the silver blade/blue body just about anywhere I fish. One side note, there was a regional tendency in the northern CA area over the years I've noticed that put the silver/green body pretty close to the silver/blue, how far up the coast it runs I can't say. The chartreuse and orange bodies can work at times, but I see them working better on coho more than on steelhead.
Over the last 20+ years I've found B.C. Steel spoons from Pentac are hard to beat, I also make my own spinners using their components.
I personally don't use scents on spinners and spoons much, but many things we do are confidence builders which make us better fisherman. Using scent couldn't hurt, gels I think would stick better.
