I have been looking to build a dock skipping rod (spinning), and was wondering about using the xs661 or at least the blank that is used to construct that model. I have never actually used this rod so I am wondering if this rod may be a little to light. The xps 662 may be a better way to go, but the mod fast rating might be a little slow for what Im after. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Alot depends on your height and how high the bow of your boat sits above the water line. If you are average height you may want to consider a 7 foot instead of a 6'6". The 2 power will have enough tip to get the low roll to skip your tube or whatever like a rock yet have sufficient length and backbone to move the bass away from the dock. Skipping also requires light line 8/10 and the length will allow a bit more shock and give to play the fish on that lighter line. The 701 is not a bad choice. Don't forget you will need a reel with ample spool capacity and you will want to balance the reel and rod as best as you can. Have fun !

I'm not new to surf fishing but I want to get serious with my next rod and reel purchase. I want a rod and reel that can do it all. I want to plan some tips for rock fish, drum (red, black, bull). I'm looking at a Van Staal 250 spinning, but need some advice on which Lamiglas rod to buy. I want most of all to cast 2-4oz lures (spoons, plugs, poppers,) and bait (live and frozen) very long distances. I was looking at the super surf model 11.5 detachable handle. Can anyone give me some insight? O yes, detachable handle sounds good on a surf rod, but what is the main purpose for it?
