XMG 114 2LL 9'6" - Steelhead rod blank

Is this rod really a fast action XMG 50 rod? I am looking for a longer rod to cast 1/4 to 2/5 oz spoons to hungry Western MD trout in the larger rivers.

Thanks

Ron, Yes this rod is made

Ron,

Yes this rod is made with high modules XMG material and is indeed fast action. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Would this rod be built as a spinner only? Was thinking about RECOIL guides, AT Comfort Grip reel seat, and Lamiglas Texilum handle (No foregrip).

Thanks

The blank doesn't care how

The blank doesn't care how you build it. Originally back in the day this weight blank was factory built by some manufacturers both ways, but the spinning versions were always more popular as the casting reels at the time were nowhere near as good at throwing lighter offerings as they are now.
I build at least 1 casting version each year, the rods are wonderfully light and much better balanced in the hand than a spinning version. The Aero spinning reelseats are now also available in 17mm, which I find more comfortable and since they also use the same OD graphite, or texalium as the casting rods use, it means you only have to buy one type/size now.
I have to build a new rod for myself, as my old one has been passed down to a young family member, the blanks are much nicer now anyway.

No one knows as much as all of us.

SP, Thanks for the info.

SP,

Thanks for the info. What would be a good conventional reel for a steelhead rod, if I decide to go that route? I guess the reel needs to work in the 6-8 lb test area for the lighter rods..

What about a conventional reel for the SI 1142LL, 9'6" blank that works in the 6-8 lb test area?

Thanks

Diawa Sol baitcasting reel, I

Diawa Sol baitcasting reel, I prefer the left handed reels. I've had to many fish take my offering at or near the water's surface, I'll not be caught switching hands when that happens. Also I use my left hand for spinning reels, see no reason to change for baitcasting.
