Want to build a new Surf Rod - Have questions.

I too looking to build a new conventional surf rod primarily for catching bull red drum and Blue Fish. I'll be using a Penn 7500 ss Avet MXL spooled with 25# mono and throwing 3-8 oz. sand grabbers with large chunks of cut mullet.

I was hoping to edit my origional post, however, the option does not seem available.

I'm looking at the XS12MHC blanks.

1. Is my Penn reel suitable for Surf fishing or is it too heavy.

GSB1502 seems to be the go to

GSB1502 seems to be the go to blank....it will toss 6oz very far.

The GSB would be a good

The GSB would be a good choice as would the SS12MHC if you can handle the 2pcs. being different lengths I would go with the SS as I prefer the action.
