Salmon Troll/Drift Rod, off the Columbia River

Hello

I'm interested in one of your rods for salmon fishing out of mouth of the Columbia River in the Pacific Ocean. We end up trolling and drift fishing. The action from the 4-8 ft swell on any given day when we drift is similar to mooching as well. We are hooking up on 10-15 lb cohos and 20+ kings on good days. One key difference here is that it is taboo to try to set the hook on these salmon as they are about to enter the river - setting the hook will rip it right out of their mouths.

What rod would you recommend that can provide some fast action, can handle a diver and is under $300.

Do you use riggers? XCF1064

Do you use riggers? XCF1064 or 1065. If not, I'd use the 903 or 904. Check them out.

My personal favorite is the 803 - extremely versatile. 11 bites, 10 fish in the boat and the one that got away was my fault!

You should take a good look

You should take a good look at anything out of our fiberglass series. The XCF 803 for a 1 piece or XCF 864, 903, or 904 for a 2 piece.
