Certified Pro X106MLC

I received a Certified Pro 10"6" Med/Light X 106 MLC rod and need to purchase a new reel to fit the rod base. My PENN 320GT will not fit on this rod.

I use 20# line on my reels and would like one that would hold at least 200 yards of line minimum. Thanks, Bob

20# mono on a 6-10# rod? what

20# mono on a 6-10# rod? what are you fishing for? Ambassadeur 6500 is the only one i can really think of that will fit the rod.

I'm with mrbfishon, I see no

I'm with mrbfishon, I see no benefit to running such heavy mono on that rod, I've fished my version with 10-12 lb mono for many years on a Shimano Curado 201 and Culcutta 251s and have never needed any heavier line. The rod's very good at protecting your line.

First I want to thank

First I want to thank Spoonplugger1 and mrbfishon for their input. The type of fish I will be using this pole for are King Salmon thus the need for 20# line. I know you may be thinking this rod is a little light but they work rather well. My fishing buddies have been using these light rods for years and it is a kick to fight a fish with it. PS. they did modify their reels to fit the pole.

What size salmon are you

What size salmon are you targeting? I'd never use my ML for Chinook around here. Like Spoonplugger, I use a Calcutta on mine, but 200 size.

I can see where you'd want to

I can see where you'd want to use a heavier leader for salmon, I use 40 lb mono leaders on my boat rods, but the main line and the rod only have to protect themselves. The salmon can only pull so hard or break the rod. I've caught near 100 salmon I bet on a Loomis HSR 9000 with 10 lb fireline and a cheap Shimano Bantam 101 graphite casting reel. Once you get the rod and line setup correctly, a heavy reel and line are just negative attributes that can ruin an enjoyable fishing day.

If you don't mind the price

If you don't mind the price tag, check out a Revo Toro 50...should fit nicely on that rod and hold plenty of line, if not quite 200 yards...a Toro 60 would probably hold just a bit more than 200/20.
