Stripping old rod

How do you recommend stripping an old rod? I want to remove everything down to the blank. Do I just cut through the wrapping? If the guides are glued on what is recommended so I don't destroy the blank?

If you are going down to the raw blank just cut the guides off and use some scotch bright the take the coating off.
