I want to buy a surf rod and am having trouble sorting through all of the information posted on the web. I think I have narrowed my search to the Graphite Surf and Jetty in a casting model. I will primarily be casting a weight and bait to start. Will the XS 10 MHC be a good rod for this purpose? I have seen many complaints about graphite surf rods breaking when casting a large weight or hauling in a big fish. From my fishing experience (with other Lamiglas rods) if your line/lure weight is within the recommendation on the rod then the line should always fail before the rod. Are there other factors with surf casting that make it especially hard on a graphite rod I am not aware of yet? Thanks for your help.

If you are within the specs of the rod as far as weight is concerned (including bait) you should have no problems. The breakage you usually here of is usually do to damage unknown to the user, or high sticking. You should have nothing to wary about.
