Both of the Excel series of rods are made from intermediate modulus graphite and as far as comparison to the XP rods. That is a hard question to answer as the XP rods are all completely different actions. They are much faster and made with different components and materials. I would say you would need to shake them side by side to feel the big difference. Hope this helps.
