I'm fishing off the San Francisco Coast for Spring and Fall run Chinook, the fish can be anywhere from 8-40lb (frequently 12-25lb). We use downriggers and mooch with up to 8oz. sliding sinkers. Sometimes we troll 2-3lb cannon balls on sinker releases, but I usually use a Ugly stik tiger 7' 15-30lb Medium Light for this.
My price point is pointing me towards the Classic Glass series, but I was wondering if they have the power to turn an angry fall run 25lb king? I've seen lots of good talk about the XCF 9O3 (not made anymore?) XCC 903, XCC 934, and XCC 1064, but like I said, my budget is more Classic Glass friendly. Thanks for any help

Oh... and a little keeper stugeon action in the SF Bay and lower Sacramento Delta wouldn't hurt either
I would suggest you take a look at the CG 90 DR. These rods were designed to run lead or downriggers and will handle big fish with ease. Now for keeper sturgeon this would not be the rod of choice however for your salmon fishing needs this rod would perform perfectly. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sure that's what I'll end up with.
However, I am trying to convince my girlfriend to add in some funding as a christmas present, would you recommend the XCC 934 over a CGA 90DR or XCF 904? I've found a online retailer that still has some of the XCF's and CGA's in inventory.
As I said before, the rod would be for downrigging and mooching bait, I've got the beater ugly stik for dragging big lead (I wouldn't subject and nicer rod to that).
You will like all three of them, it will just come down to personal preference, the XCC 934 is a little bit stiffer in the butt section than the other two however it does have a slimmed down diameter as well with the added graphite. The XCF and the CGA are all fiberglass rods and have a bigger butt diameter butt work awesome for down rigger use. The hard part is now up to you to try and decide what to get, have a great week.
