X96MTS Tied as a Casting Rod

I have a blank that is usually tied for the X96MTS. It appears to be the same blank used for the X96JC or X96MC rod. Can I ties this as a casting rod? If so what is the recommended guide spacing and guide sizes used?

Hello Kevin All 3 models are

Hello Kevin

All 3 models are different blanks
XSH 114 2MT
XSH 114 2M
XSH 114 2MJ

You would be able to use the same guide spacing though.
Start measurment's from the tip top and work down to the butt section.
3"-61/8"-91/4"-121/2"-16"- 20"-241/2"-291/4"-341/2"-403/4"-48"-561/2"-643/4"-741/2"

Hope this helps have a great day!!!!

Jason H, That does help.

Jason H,
That does help. Basically just tie it up like a JC or MC with five #6, four #7, three #8, one 10 and one 12? Is this an 8-17# rod when done? What is the recommended lure weight on it? It is medium action is that correct? How about tip top diameter? Thanks for your time.
Kevin

Kevin, The recommended lure

Kevin,

The recommended lure wt. would be 1/4 - 5/8 with an action of a Magnum Taper, designated by the MT in the back half of the model number. And yes this rod was designed as an 8-17lb. rod. Hope this helps.

Any info you pick up about

Any info you pick up about the popular X 10 MTC will apply to your blank, they were very similar.
I have a few 114 MTs and like them very much, rod lengths after going up over the years seem to be going down again except for specific purpose rods. It's hard to not see the advantages to shorter, lighter rods, less weight and length along with minimal components and wraps can make a dandy, lighter and better balanced fishing weapon that is a bunch easier to pack through the briers and brambles.
I've built 4 custom rods for the wife, the longest 9 1/2 ft., she's a sweet heart except when I pick up her custom Ti2000 8 ft. 6 in. ML spinning rod, than I'd rather be in the room with a badger.

No one knows as much as all of us.
