Canal Jigging...

Hey guys,

New guy here in the market for a custom rod. I fish the Cape Cod Canal, and this year, I am stepping up my game into the a better rig.

I am getting a Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500 this weekend, and I noticed the dealer where I buy my gear sells Lami rods.

I'm curious if anyone knows how these rods fair Jigging the Canal, as it's a pretty brutal place for any rod. My last $100 rod is all but junk after 2 years of use. That's not even heavy use, lol.

Not sure how to even pick out a rod like this, but I would also like to use it for some Surf casting maybe.

Also, is there a big difference from a 2 piece rod, to a 1 piece? Reason I ask is because I have to find a way to cart around a 10' rod, in a 6' bed if I get a 1 piece, lol.

Any advice would be great. Not many people use Lami rods that I know. Maybe it's just because of the 250-300 price range, lol.

I had a long talk with Ron

I had a long talk with Ron Arra at the RISSA show in Providence, RI. Ron. if you don't know, is a long time canal fisherman and several time world champion long distance caster. He had his custom Cape Cod Canal rod there and I got to look it over real close while he gave me a casting lesson and an explanation of the rod. I was impressed and will be building a rod on the same (XRA 132 2, 11ft, 1pc) Lamiglas blank. I don't think that you will be disappointed with Ron Arra Lami surf rod.
