I know this is the forum for Salmon/Steelhead rods, but I thought I'd ask if my Salmon Rod (MBC 86MH) would work for fishing Tarpon in the Florida Keys. I know tarpon can go upwards of 250lbs, but do you think the rod would be able to handle a 100lb fish?

Maybe, they fish for Tarpon with fly rods about the strength of your rod. The big thing and why you see so many lost fish while tarpon fishing is getting the big hook to penetrate that armored, bony mouth.
Back when I was in the Coast Guard and stationed at Miami I tried my salmon/steelhead rods on the fish down there, didn't have much luck with tarpon on our rods except for the heaviest hotshot and backbouncing rods. Still saltwater rods work best, between the swing big takedown than misses, one jump/headshake spits, and the sharks you're going to have enough disappointments.
Baby tarpon among the mangroves should be fine though.
