I am looking to build a new surf rod. I am interested in the Super Surf SSU 120 1M (14-30 1-4).

1) Looking at the specs though on the website it shows the the avg weight at 11 1/2 oz. Is this correct? The next higher rated rod, SSU 120 1MH (17-40 2-6), is only 8 1/2oz.

2) I am not a huge fan of the green color. Can the finish be sanded down to the bare graphite?
