High Water Condition Drift Rod (Think Springers)

I fished Cowlitz for Springers lately, with moderate success. I have used 9ft rod for most of my corkie/yarn presentation, but it appears to be short sometimes, due to those extra-long casts. The rest of my 9'6" rods are simply lacking backbone for hooksets in a strog current. I have quite few medium-powered rods (including XMG 9.2 spinning), so it would be justified to go for something heavy/medium-heavy.
I started feeling a need foreven longer drift rod, that can throw 1 oz to 1.5 oz weight with long leaders, etc. Having float fishing also in mind, I was thinking about Dave Vedder model X 106 MHC.
Is this rod good option for me?

The X106MHC would be the best

The X106MHC would be the best rod for how you are talking about fishing. Great backbone for kings and lite enough in the tip to toss bobbers and eggs. A little over kill for steelies. The only down fall on this rod is the weight of this rod in your hand.

XMG691, Thank you for your

XMG691,

Thank you for your reply. Yeah, one heavier rod for those high flows and deep spots will not hurt, I guess. Weight doesn't always concern me, if it is well balanced (I hate tip-heavy rods, if they don't have to be that way). I will have to go to the store and check it out. The only similar rod would be STR1265C, but that is moderate action, and I am sure it would cause more strain to my arms, being that way. I will compare them for sure, once I get to the store. I would like to hear from someone who used this rod (Vedder model) and tried it with classic drift gear.

Yesterday I went to Sportco

Yesterday I went to Sportco and compared the X106MHC with GL2 STR1265C, as well as with couple of St. Croix competing models and I picked the lightest and best ballanced of them - X106MHC Dave Vedder model. I thought that I have fished and tried most of Cert Pro rods, but never picked this one, so it comes as a surprise, how light and well balanced it is for its class. Seems to be perfect for what I was looking for. Mission accomplished!

I use my 10' herzog 8-17 for big water drifting id imagine that would handle a springer just fine

Tight lines

Yeah, that one was on a short

Yeah, that one was on a short list, too.
I still think that this Dave Vedder Model is a bit better suited for my purpose, being specified for weights 1/2 - 1.5 oz. More forgiving, I would say.
It is proven to work fine already, last week it caught me a nice Spriger... It is exceptionally sensitive, with regard to its class. Keeper for sure!
