The guide on the G-1213 are American Tackle ring lock guide, and the reason that the first guide is closer to the reel seat is that we built those under the assumption that the rod user would most likely be using a small spinning reel. This would mean that it has a small spool so that you would need the first guide to be a little lower on the blank to achieve maximum casting distance. Hope this helps.
