This was my father's rod and now it's mine. The subject info was marked on the rod. What does it stand for? What reel and rod is best for the type of fishing that the rod was designed for?

The rod you have is where Lamiglas started the development of what is now the XMG 50 rods. I owned one from around 2000 that was passed down to my son who still fishes it today. I'd fish a reel similar to the Shimano 200/201 in size and line capacity on 10-12 lb line. If you have one of those rods you have about 85% of your summer/winter steelhead or coho fishing needs met from the bank.
