XT96MS for bobber/jig fishing

Hi guys,
Just bought a XT96MS rod and Shimano Stradic 3000FI for bobber/jig fishing the Wilson, Trask, Nehalem for steelhead. Make a mistake? I know 10' or more would be better, but the extra length seems to get me into more trouble, than the 9'6" length. It feels great, and can mend line easy enough, but it's not listed on Lamiglas so it must have been just a promotion or discontinued, right. I'm no expert, and can adapt to my equipment, so it doesn't have to be the best. But, did I make a mistake? Any suggestions that might make for a better combination?
Thanks!
Don

I've seen that rod used for

I've seen that rod used for that purpose, another would be the X 96 JS which would work a bit better with a larger variety of float style and terminal gear combinations.

No one knows as much as all of us.
