i have a XCF 705R which i really like. based on my recommendation for using a fiberglass rod for crankin', my fishing partner went out and picked up a XCF 705. when i looked at it, i was quite surprised to see that it was marked as E-glass. at first, i thought maybe he had picked up a competitor-series CFC 685 instead as my XCF 705R doesn't say E-glass on it anywhere and i had always assumed it was S-glass. are the XCF 705 and 705R both made out of E-glass? i assume that the only difference between the two is that the 705R has a slightly stiffer tip?

Lamiglas doesn't make the S Glass MB 841 any longer. I have maybe 1 left in my stock, the only real difference is the S Glass blank is a bit lighter, around 3/8 oz, if I remember right.
They did a very good job keeping the actions similar.
They also made a CMB 841 back around 2000 that had an E glass tip, with the thin wall glass butt over wrapped with graphite. All are very pleasant, versatile blanks.
Someone, might have been Todd Vivian, said the composite CCB 84 5M was built on the same mandrel and looks considerably lighter.
No one knows as much as all of us.
