I am looking for the next greatest heavy football jig rod. I used to fish them on a 7' St Croix Legend Frog Rod, but found that the sensitivity was lacking. I tried a friend's Loomis GLX 855 and think highly of this rod, minus the price tag. I have heard good things about Lamiglas and wanted to see if there is anything in the line up that would suit my needs and not cost an arm, etc. I fish mainly 1 oz. footballs on deep grass flats (18-25') where getting the jig caught in the grass is the first step, and then ripping it free is the second step. I usually get bit on the rip and fall. I see on the forum that the XC724 senko rod is recommended for football jigs up to 1 oz., but this seems lighter than what I was using or have tried. Can you offer any advice on this subject? Thanks!

The XC705 would be a good choice but it might have a little to light of a tip for you. The best thing for you would probably a EXC705.

I personally like the XC724 Senko Rod exactly for this purpose. Yes, the tip feels a little light if you are used to heavy rods, but that light tip gives you the sensitivity you need to tell you are in the grass as soon as you encounter it. That light tip also keeps the bass hooked-up during the fight so you land more fish.
This rod is also a good choice for Carolina rigging, and of course Senkos and pitching other plastics as well!

Guys, I appreciate the quick responses. What is the difference between the XC724 and the EXC724? Same rod, different components? or different rod altogether? Will the EXC have the same characteristics as the XC version? Thanks again
Rods starting with a "E" are the XMG50 series rods. Better graphite in the blank, constructed with the new no foregrip, etc. design.
No one knows as much as all of us.
I agree with both Marc and Josh. I prefer the EXC724 for heavy football heads with an exposed hook. It truly is an amazing rod for this application. However, for heavy football heads with a brush guard I prefer the EXC703 and EXC705. My football heads with a brush guard typically feature a more stout hook as well. I like the additional hooksetting power that the EXC703 and EXC705 provide in deep water for these jigs.
