beachmaster surf rod

I recently recieved as a gift a Beachmaster surf rod..It appears to be a custom rod for J & H made with a Surf King blank. (SK 10 MHS 3oz-8oz). I own a Van Staal 250 (I'm left handed so the only models available are the 150 and 250), a Okuma V65a, and a Penn 650ssm. My question is this..Even during the fall run or in heavy surf I very rarely throw plugs up to or over three ounces..so paired with any of the above reels will I be able to throw and properly work lures and plugs in the 1.5oz to 2.5oz range?

It is like trying to throw a wiffle ball a hundred miles an hour. No matter how fast your arm is moving the ball just doesn't react well. The rod isn't able to flex from the weight of the lighter plugs I have tried to do the same thing with my heavy bait rod it still works but not to it's full potential. I'm not an expert it's just my logical opinion

It's important to use your rod within the ratings on the rod. If the rod is rated for 3-8 ounces, then those are the lures that you can cast easily. To try and cast a 2 ounce lure with this rod would be difficult to get any distance and you would more than likely just throw the lure into the ground. Likwise if you were to cast a lure of 10 ounces, you would either break the tip or not be comfortable and need to "lob" cast. Always look at the lure ratings to match up with the lure you want to use.
