I have 2 9' 8wt xmg50 2pc rods which are great, I got them before they were discontinued, I fished last year in RI for stripers and blues with them and they cast and fight very well. I have been looking around for a 9' 10wt rod but am not real thrilled to have to go with a 4 pc rod. It seems like this is the trend for all fly rods these days. whats the deal? I know the smaller pieces are easier to store and caryy from place to place, and that you are not suppose to be able to tell the difference between the 2 pc and the mutli pc rods, and that the technology is better so the joints a re stronger and lighter, but I believe you can tell the difference even if it is slight, to me there is always that little voice in the back of my head wondering which section is not going to hold up. Will we ever see the market trend back to fewer pieces? Does anybody else have any comment on this?

I hope so, my favorite for storage/fishability is the 3 piece blank, but they are rare now also. Fly fishing is not as popular as it was, the fewer anglers still in the stores are more mobile that they used to be, and the vehicles used to get there are going to get smaller and storage tighter.
No one knows as much as all of us.
My number one fly rod is my Lamiglas GT1298-6 that 4 pc, 6 wt line and 9 ft length. It's my all around fly rod, works fine for any freshwater fly fishing, but unfortunately this rod to light for pike flies. I would like to buy rod for giant flies it is a 4ps 9wt GT1298-9 but this building canceled, now available only 2pc version G1298-9 wich is inconvenient for me.
Narrowriver,
Your thoughts about the 4 piece are not unique. For years people struggled with 2 piece rods, as they prefered 1 piece rods. Here at Lamiglas we feel that whether it is a 2, 3, 4 or 6 piece rod, the ferrules are solid and the blank action is smooth. 4 piece rods travel nicely, especially if you're on a trip, either backpacking, in a canoe or kayak or on the airplane. Give them a try and in no time you'll think you have a 1 piece rod again!
