I am taking a fly-in trip to a Canadian lake where the opportunity of catching a trophy Pike is high. I am a looking for a 2-piece Lamiglas blank for the trip, I am not sure if I want a spinning or baitcasting rod, it kind of depends on what is available.
I am open to a built rod also but my first preference is to build the rod myself. Most of my fishing experience, well almost all of it is fly-fishing for steelhead and trout in the nothwest.
Thanks any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hard to tell you without some knowledge about the techniques you're going to use. Generically I'd look at the XT 8425, GLB 90 2ML, and the GLB 90 2M for starters. The 90 2M is a good blank for backbouncing and jigging for salmon when you get back down this way, Lamiglas used to build a rod on it called the Willamette Special I believe. The 1 piece version is used in the Puget Jigger if I remember right. Going blind, I'd go with the GLB 90 2M I think.
Pike big or otherwise really don't need a powerful rod to fight the fish, more for correctly casting/presenting the lures used to get the fish.
Have caught lots of big pike on rods like the IMC 784 or DTIMC 84 M on jigs and dead bait in early spring, but wouldn't use them to troll, throw big spinnerbaits especially if you modify them into baby chickens or for big spoons. The 2 and 3 piece blank mentioned above would also pack nicer on a bush plane. In a pinch a heavy telescoping flipping stick also works well and packs a bit smaller collapsed.
No one knows as much as all of us.
Thanks Spoonplugger1,
Being almost strictly a fly-fisherman this is a new a new arena for me. It will be my wife and me only, no guide. I envision casting plugs and spinners with little if any trolling. Back-bouncing may be an option but I need to learn more about it and Pike before I can really say. I have been under the impression that a pretty stout roud is required, am I wrong in that assumption?
We will be fishing for Walleye also and jigging is a definite possibility. The trip is planned for the first week of September when the fishing is supposed to be pretty good barring any extreme weather changes.
Thanks for your reply.
Just one more cast.
