Im looking into the BL6630 or BL7030, the rod will be used for livelining bunker and chunking for Stripers. I have an Avet MXL 5.8.
My question is,,,does the 15-30# class rod have the punch and backbone for good size fish?
Should I go with the heavier 20-40# (BL6640 or BL7040) rod?
A couple months back (at a tackle shop) i put that 5.8 Avet on the 20-40# class rod and the grip seemed really thick and somewhat heavy for that little reel. The 15-30# felt right for that reel.
I want to go with the 15-30# but i dont want to be under-gunned either!
Thanks

Sully,
I have 6630 with a Penn International Baitcaster reel. I live line and chunk Stripers and Bluefish on the North Fork of LI. I fish 40lb braid and love the this rod. Great sensitivity especially with braid and this rod has plenty of backbone for 30 lb. plus stripers. Great fun also jigging for bass and blues. 15 lb blues will give you more of a work out than a 30 lb. bass. I just bought a second 6630 and mounted a Avet MXL 5.8. I like many others are moving to lighter gear for stripers. Since I also fly fish for stripers this rod fits well with my needs. Light and powerful with a fast action. I had debated getting the 7030 but am convinced that I made the right choice with the 6.5' lenght as it is much easier to handle in the boat with 3 or four others in the boat working a drift let alone storing it in the boat and in the house. If you get outgunned with this rod then call me I want to fish with you.
