Ok lamiglas, what is your best rod....PERIOD

Getting comparative reviews of rods without searching through each and everyone is like pulling teeth fron an alligator with a stump for a hand.

I am deployed in Iraq and I want to get my dad the best. Not best value, or best cheap rod. I want to get him the abolute best money can buy that is not custom. If I had the time I would get him a custom altenkirch rod, (which I am surprised to see no reviews about his work here), but I dont.

I saw the Shimano Camura, which looks to be a damn good rod. But it is not the best, and I don't think it is what I am looking for. SO let me tell you what I am looking for.

My father and I are Alaskan anglers. For as long as I can remember we have been fishing the rivers lakes and creeks for salmon (Kings, reds, and silvers in the ocean) We started using trout rods for reds because it was alot more fun then the heavier rods.

I need a rod that is strong enough for king salmon (up to 95 pounds, hey we might get lucky) and as light as possible. We fly fish for red salmon (not traditional method, the flip drift method on rivers) We fish from the boat for kings (Using deep six divers and the banana looking lures, forget what they are called) and troll the ocean for silver salmon. I want a rod that can meet all those needs, and is top of the line. Money is not an object.

For a reel I want a top of the line variable speed baitcaster that can hold 7lb to 30lb test. I would like the setup to look sleek and professional. I want it so when my dad goes fishing, he turns heads, from everyone.

Let the suggestions roll through, and thanks in advance

OK,
It looks like drift fishing is the method we use for reds, alaskan style. the rod I am looking at is the Lamiglas Ti2000 Titanium TBC 86 H seen here http://www.lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?groupid=9

It looks like it will do everything I want it to do from reds to kings. The grips are set up for a baitcast reel which is what my dad prefers. I personally prefer a spinning reel so I can fish with one hand and still have a finger on the line, to each his own I suppose.

Has anyoe tried this rod?? is there anything better?

So lamiglas, what I am looking for is the best of the best of the best of the best and then the best one out of that group. I am looking for the rod that you have hidden in the back room in case Jesus comes to you with his fishing knowledge and wants to know what you have for him.

If you guys don't have it, could you kindly tell me who does.

Ohhhh. You are looking for

Ohhhh. You are looking for the Jesus special. You should have just said that. Just kidding. I think you are on the right track with the TBC86H. This is the rod that can handle the applications you will need it to. But is still feels and looks like a Ferrari. The Titanium shaft looks sweet and makes for a very sensitive rod.

If you have not bought a reel yet the new Shimano Calcutta TE 400 LJV With a smaller handle off of the DC 200 (should fit) would be the most amazing setup I think you could buy today. OOOO It gives me chills. Or if you like a smaller reel the DC 250 would be a good choice.

TBC 86H is the best rod money

TBC 86H is the best rod money can buy for your application. I happen to know that if you pair it with a Shimano Calais 200DC, you'll be blown away. Don't leave that combo laying around or someone will pick it up and fish it for you.

First time I drif- fished with my 86H, I thought someone was throwing rocks at my rod it was so sensitive.

Fish

hmmmmmm, ok I am sold on the

hmmmmmm, ok I am sold on the rod,
but the reel. Shimano keeps coming up, calcutta te or calais. My father has smaller, but meatier hands.

Ill order the rod now, just need to figure out what reel I will get.

Hey, all...first post

Hey, all...first post here.

Lamiglas has been my rod of choice for many years, and I use Lami rods for all kinds of steelhead and salmon fishing...the most versatile rod I own is the CP X96JC, hands down. I driftfish with it, toss worms with it, swing spoons with it, and use it as a float rod on small streams, even.

Hard to go wrong with that rod!

Not tryin to get picky, but,

Not tryin to get picky, but, if you are wanting to do that variety of angling, and money is no onject...Why not just buy 2 or 3 rods, specifically suited for each application. I would hate to drift fish for Chinook, with a damn Diver rod. But that is just my opinion, and a couple decent rods might be in the price realm of some of the the Ti series stuff. But you know, being comfortable with your gear is one of the most important aspects in a wicked productive anglers toolbox, with comfort comes confidence. Confidence catches fish. Look into the Revo series reels. Bitchin casing units, that can cast a few # 5 split shot, but still stop a freight train when you crank down the drag.

Yes, they eat eggs...No, you're wrong!

+1 on what Todd said....The X

Ti2000 Titanium / IM700 Yep

Ti2000 Titanium / IM700 Yep the titanium 8'6" rods are the best Lami makes. Right now you are lucky that they still make them for casting. For me I am a spin fisherman so I own two of them the 8'6" heavy and the 9'3" light before they stopped selling the spinning versions. If you were into spinning I say get a Zeebaas reel and that would be the best money could buy. I wished Lami would bring back the spinning version and start using that blank in other saltwater rods! I like spinning as I can quickly change spools. I've caught large 43+ lb Kings on that rod with 20lbs mono no problem and it could handle a larger fish no problem!
