Salmon/Steelhead Drift Rod

I would like your opinion on the use of the Certified Pro x113m Centre Pin Rod versus the Certifed Pro Fiberglass xcf1064f or xcf1065f rods for bank drift fishing using 15-20 pound test monofilament with split shot single egg or egg sac drift set ups with 8-15 pound leader tippet as specified in regulations for fishing this river on the Salmon River, Pulaski, NY. Primary Late Summer/Early Fall species are King and Coho Salmon ranging for 15-35 pounds and Late Fall/Early Winter Steelhead ranging from 5-15 pounds. Flow rates vary from 335 cfs in early period to 750cfs later on. Casting is really more of a modified chuck and duck situation overall and fly reel is used similar to a centre pin reel if one were float fishing. Would you consider the fiberglass more appropriate for salmon and the centre pin possibly better for steelhead or does the centre pin have enough power to handle the salmon as well? Vice versa is the fiberglass too heavy a rod for steelhead?

Lots of guys fish center pin

Lots of guys fish center pin reels for salmon. It is quite fun. I wouldn't want to pitch a center pin with either of the fiberglass rods you mentioned, though. It'd get pretty heavy pretty quickly.

Thank you for your opinion.

Thank you for your opinion. That is the question. Just how heavy are these rods comparatively. Many are currently using 13-15 ft spey rods that weigh 8-10 oz without the reel which may weigh an additonal 7-9 oz with running lines or flipping a weight forward spey line. The fiberglass would be a much better fighing tool to use with a direct drive large arbor or standard size 10-12 anti reverse fly reel and mono in this situation for King Salmon. I am still curious as to the power rating on each. REM

The X 113 M-CP Would work out

The X 113 M-CP Would work out great for both Salmon and Steelhead The XCF would be a bit to heavy they are more of a trolling rod.
