Can I use this X 80 MBC GH for some surf fishing?

My question is can I use this for surf and river fishing for stripers 5-20Lb? How well can will rod cast and handle plugs, jigs, spoons in 1-2.5 oz? Does anyone have this rod and use them in these situations? Any comments or feedback would be much appreciated, planning on getting on before the season starts.

If that is the length and weight range you are looking in you should have no issues. The rod is tried and true it is designed for Back Bouncing big Chinook it will handle a lot. It is a very nice light weight sensitive blank. The rod will handle it no problem.

A friend is giving me an 8'

A friend is giving me an 8' X80 MBCT and I was wondering what I could use this for if I don't have a boat to back bounce?
