Which Rod 1205 or 1203

I am upgrading my spinning rod and I am trying to make a buying decision. It has come down to the 2 piece 1203 or the 2 piece 1205. I will use these rods for plugging 1-3 oz plugs and bucktails in the surf on RI beaches. My question is what are the subtle diiferences between these two rods and which one would be beeter for what I am planning to do with it.

Thanks in advance

Hello Tim

I would go with the XSRA 1205-2 It has plenty of power yet will still load on a cast very well. This would be your best bet. Hope this helps have a great day.

The 1205 is a great plugging

The 1205 is a great plugging rod for the surf. I have built several of these, but just not the 2-piece model, sorry. The 1205 excels from 2-3.5. Although, it's not the best pencil popping rod or eeling rod. I've built several of the 1205s for people in RI.

The 1205 has been described

The 1205 has been described as "too heavy" by at least two users I know. This was especially noted when bucktailing with 1-oz. to 1-1/2 oz. lures. If you are going with the heavier plugs then go with the 1205. If you can use a one-piece I'd recommend the 1204. I've fished it for many years for bass in M and have not had any problems with bucktailing and plugging with the smaller (< 3-oz.) plugs.

Good luck.

1205 is my favorite 2.5 oz to about 4 oz plug rod - I built three of them :)
