The X 96 JS has a much more moderate action then the X 96 MTS the MTS is a lot faster action. The JS would make a better jig and bobber rod or even a little heavier duty side drifting rod. As well as a light duty drift rod. The MTS would be better for fishing spoons, Drift fishing, Spinners, Chinook lighter duty. If I had to chose between the two models I would go with the X 96 JS. This will cover most uses just fine. It is lighter weight in the hand as well. Hope this helps have a great day.
