There's jacks right there in the surf

So I just got back from a yearly two week trip to the Pacific coast of Mexico. I usually get out on a panga and throw flies at breaking bonita or troll for spanish mackerel. The water was cold this year and the bonita were gone the sierra small. In the past I've gone to a beach an hour away and bobbed in the surf trying to get a fly out far, lucky to get a jurel (jack), a needle fish or a burro.

I've tried lures around the rocks with limited success picking up the occasional rock sea bass like fish the locals call a tiger fish.

This year I discovered there's usually jacks right there in the surf. I never fished the beach where I stay much because the locals always to "better" areas, but my seven year old son and I had a blast pulling in small jacks every morning. I borrowed a 8' ugly stick from a local friend, had a couple medium sized kastmaster spoons and went out every morning for an hour. When we were lucky and the fish came a little closer, the bait was jumping and we were spooning 10" jacks on every cast. We landed one about 18" I though I'd snagged a rock, luckily I had a good real and the surf pushed him in.

So I want no need a rod that will cast 3/4oz - 1oz spoons as far out as possible.
Preferably transportable but, since Lamiglas doesn't seem to make a 3 piece, if it has to be a long and two piece I may decide to leave it there.

What's the best rod or blank?

I would look at a X10MHC if

I would look at a X10MHC if you are using a casting rod or a G1315 if you are using a spinning rod.

Thanks Josh,
I've looked through the surf and salt, rods and blanks. Where are these listed?

Josh, Thanks for the

Josh,
Thanks for the suggestions, where are these listed? I looked under saltwater and surf, rods and blanks and didn't see them.

Sorry I gave you rod models.

Sorry I gave you rod models. The blank names are XSH1202MH and GSA1022H and are listed as salmon-steelhead blanks. If you are building it yourself I would go with the XSH1202MH.
