I plan on having a custom made 2 pc 10' rod made. I plan on using it for 1 1/2 - 3 oz metals, poppers and swimmers. Would the GSB 1202 L be too light, or "soft"? Is the 1202 2M needed? Most of my lures will be 2 to
2 1/2 oz. 3 oz pencils or metals would be the high end of the weight range. Would a 3 oz metal or plug overload the 1202 L? I guess that really is the key question.
My concern is I would find the 1202 M too fast, or stiff.
Thanks in advance for any reply.
Happy New Year.

If you primarily fish the Jersey shore the GSB 1202 L is my choice. I have built plug rods on the M series blanks, but I personally think the M series is just a tad too heavy for what we normally encounter and use at the shore. I am speaking of the type of lures we normally use; a six inch-2oz pencil popper, a small swimmer of the same dimensions, an AVA 027 or 037, a 1oz bucktail or a 7inch bomber (loaded or unloaded), a live eel or a soft plastic that weighs an ounce or so.
The L series blanks will allow you to feel the plug swimming and also allow even a novice to work a pencil popper correctly. The M series blanks would just dampen the feeling with these size plugs; but if you are using the big pencil poppers or the larger swimming plugs then you would want the M series.
Solve the problem by building the L first and then the M second. That's waht I did. It's great to have a strategy and a plan with milestone goals for the New Year!
Good Luck.
