I have a Diawa Saltiga 30 and I want to upgrade the rod for it. I'm considering either a BL7030 or BL 7040. Which is a better match and why? What makes characteristic are change to make a rod a live bait rod from a casting rod?

The BL7040LB and the 7040C are very different rods. The LB has a very light tip with plenty of power in the butt. The BL7040C and BL7030C have power through the entire rod and the tip is quite a bit stiffer. It really depends on what application you will be using it for.
