I recently bought one of the discontinued Tri-Flex blanks...
The site where it came from had it listed on a 2009 closeout list (Lamaglas)...
The blank number they had on it was/is CGBT 721 LLL...
The specs listed are...Tri-Flex Boat and trolling...12 lb...1/4-5/8 oz. 6 Ft 1 piece .57 butt #6 tip...
Now here's the problem...
When I read the description of a "Tri-Flex" blank, it specifically gives me the impression that the
front half (the tip end) of the blank is ALL fiberglass...
Without trying to quote...a fiberglass blank that has a "layer" of graphite on the inside from the
butt to the middle of the rod and a "layer" on the outside (just) on the butt section...
When I asked the dealer what color it was..hoping it would not have the color of the blank and
especially the fiberglass covered up by paint...they/he replied that it was painted black...
Oh well not the end of the world...I still got it...but...
The blank I got does not appear to be...well there's something up here...
First, the butt looks close enough to the stated measurement for me not to measure it...
but the tip is actually a 7.5...not a #6...(it's not unusual for a tip to be off by .5 and they tend to
be under, not over what their listed at)...
But here's the real interesting part...it appears to be all graphite ! And acts sensitive like an all
graphite blank would...
As you might expect, when you know your getting the "last one in stock" it had a slight defect...
the black paint it was supposed to have was only on one side of the blank and not completely
around it...and so what, I intended to paint it anyway...but that let me see the entire length
of the actual blank and it looks as if it's ALL graphite all the way to the tip...
Can anyone shed some light on this for me as I'm thoroughly confused...
Here's the major most part of the confusion...
I tried a "Tri-Flex" because I thought what I'd have would be...
A. a bit lighter than all fiberglass...
B. a bit stiffer from the middle down to the butt...
C. still flexible from the middle on out to the tip like a fiberglass blank would be...
I'm still thinking it will make a really unique light spinning rod..especially since it's a "no longer
made" blank...but I'm more than just a bit confused and any info would help...

The Tri Flex model is painted with a clear coat. The Color difference you are looking at is the transition from the Graphite material to the Glass. As far as the design all the Tri Flex models are Glass and Graphite all through the blank, not just on the tip. That section in most cases is just where the outer layer of Glass is exposed. I hope this helps have a great day.
