Steelhead, coho salmon rod

Hi,

I currently fish an X 86 MTC as my primary drift rod, especially from the boat.
Have another G 1313- T that I use for heavier drift applications.

I'm looking for a rod that's 10' 6" or longer that can be used as a drift rod and fished with a float as well, primarily for when bank fishing.
Is the D. Vedder X 106 MC a float rod or a drift rod? Can it be used for both?

If not, which two rods would you recommend (one as a drift, one for floats).

Thx,

Ryan

That rod was designed as a

That rod was designed as a float rod but many have used it successfully as a drift rod. It is a bit slow for a drift rod and I personally do not like to drift fish with a rod longer than 10’. For drift fishing I like the EXC92M or the EXC10M if you like longer rods. Your current X86MTC is also a good drift rod.

Thanks Josh. I was fishing

Thanks Josh.

I was fishing the Cascade the other day and the float guys with long rods seemed to have an advantage. I've never fished anything other than 8' 6". I want to expand my presentation abilities to match the WA rivers.

As far as a float rod goes, what model do you recommend for a variety of uses?
I'm looking for something that I can fish Fixed floats for Steelies up here in Washington as well as down home on the Trinity (CA) or the Russian River (CA) or even low water Kings on the Chetco and Smith. I'd prefer something that's a bit light for the kings and is more geared toward steelies.

Thx,

Ryan

If you are fishing fixed

If you are fishing fixed floats, spinning usually is more in order. If this is the case the X106MLS or the EXS106ML.
If you want a casting rod your first choice the X106mc would be good. Rr the EXC10M because you could use it as a drift rod also.
