Looking to build this rod blank (9', 9 wt, 2 pc) for surf and jetty use in DE and MD. I have built an EF 1084 for freshwater trout fishing and was wondering whether or not this blank is fast enough for jetty or surf use. How does it rate against other surf fly rods such as the TFO TICR/TICX or Orvis TLS Power Matrix blanks?

I do not know much about the models you have listed? I can tell you that the XMG blanks are some of the faster action blanks I have ever casted. I would even recommend over lining the rod with a 10 wt. line. I believe if you would like a rod with plenty of power you are on the right track. I hope this helps have a great day.
